Anne Baudequin is a landscape painter. Her work, inspired by the observation of nature en plein air, follows in the direct lineage of 19th-century French landscape painters. She is drawn to the poetry of simple subjects, such as the paths around her village, a riverbank, or a cloud hovering over the mountains… She paints in oils, « alla prima. » This allows her to capture the atmosphere and the momentary, fleeting effects of sunlight. She paints quickly with lively, spontaneous brushstrokes that lend her paintings a sense of movement.
For her, the landscape has always been an object of contemplation, a peaceful interlude away from everyday life. Ever since her first paintings at the age of fifteen, she has naturally drawn her inspiration from it. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art, her studies exposed her to other visual art practices, but did nothing to distract her from her passion for painting from life.
About twenty years ago, she chose to live and paint in the Auvergne region. From her studio overlooking the Loire gorges, she contemplates the majestic landscape shaped by volcanoes every day. Her brushes explore it tirelessly, like a daily walk constantly renewed by the light, shifting weather, and changing seasons.
She also loves to travel, seeing it as an opportunity to capture new landscapes, lights, and colors. The sea, in particular, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for her.
Her work aims to humbly pay tribute to the beauty of the world, without necessarily needing to travel far and wide. Even in the most familiar environments, one can be moved by the sublime. Her intimate dialogue with the landscape makes her highly sensitive to its infinite variations and vibrations. Day after day, she strives to transcribe its subtle nuances as accurately as possible.
Her work is currently held in private collections across the globe.
